Softball Hosts Exhibition Double Header Saturday Beginning at Noon

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing a pair of exhibition games in its beautiful new stadium, Santa Clara Softball will face Academy of Art Sat., Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in a double header. Following the game there will be a social mixer to follow just down the street from campus at Wine Affairs on the Alameda. The Broncos will finish the fall season Sun., Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in a double header at Stanford.

The fall is a time for teams to experiment with players in new positions and different batting orders in a game that doesn't count against the regular season record.

"We're trying to figure out some different starting lineups this weekend," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "We have a new player coming in that can play a middle position and we have several people that can play the outfield so we'll move some things around out there. We want to see what our new players can do and have our returners step up. Offense is going to be our main focus for fall."

Another key for the fall is to see where the team is at what and what needs to be done to get ready for spring.

"We want to mix and match some different lineups and see how things play out in terms of how players fit and how they handle those roles," said Mize. "That's really what fall is all about. This is a good way for us to see where our strengths and weaknesses are. We'll see where we need to improve and it will give us a good gauge to see where we're at in terms of the regular season."

After the the games on Saturday, alumni, fans, and supporters of the program will gather at Wine Affairs, a unique craft beer and wine venue.
