Catching up with Jordan Newell Off the Field

Halfway through her college career, Jordan Newell is excited about improving her game to be a key player for Bronco's Softball. With hard work, she hopes to be a dominant presence on the field and to support the new freshmen on the team. Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) had to the chance to sit down with her to discuss the ongoing season.

SCB: As an upperclassman, what do you hope to teach the freshmen this season?

JN: During my first season at SCU I was a little anxious and nervous about making the transition from high school to college ball, so I know exactly how the current freshmen are feeling. I want them to have fun and enjoy every minute of their experience here because it goes by quick. I can't believe I'm actually an upperclassman…

SCB: What is something you have learned playing at SCU that has helped you become a better player?

JN: I have learned so much playing for SCU, but most importantly to never give up. As a player you're going to deal with illness, injury, and defeat and how you respond to that says what kind of player you are. You just have to bounce back and come out stronger than before.

SCB: What is your favorite part about being on the team?

JN: Being a part of this team is a great experience. The best part is the strong friendships I've formed with all of my teammates. We are a crazy group of girls with a lot of different personalities, but we all get along so well. Playing the sport you love with all of your close friends is awesome.

SCB: Do you have any personal goals for the rest of your season?

JN: I want to keep improving upon my previous seasons here at Santa Clara and be a dominant presence on the field. A team goal we have is to win conference.
