Bronco Softball Set for Pair of Non-Conference Games

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Taking a break from the West Coast Conference, Santa Clara softball plays a pair of non-conference games this week. The Broncos play at Cal on Tues., April 15 at 3 p.m. and host Fresno State Thurs., April 17 at 6 p.m. Last week the Broncos fell at Utah Valley and took one game at BYU. Santa Clara is now 6-25 on the season.

Stephanie Fisher leads Santa Clara in hitting with a .354 (34-96) batting average. Fisher is tied for the team lead with eight doubles and has added one home run and one triple. She has scored 11 runs and driven in 14 while stealing two bases. Kelly Scribner leads Santa Clara with five home runs while batting .299 (26-87). Scribner is the only Bronco to have started all 31 games. She has added eight doubles to lead the team with a .563 slugging percentage. Scribner has scored 12 runs and driven in 13. Geenamarie Bonilla leads Santa Clara with 22 RBIs while hitting a triple and five doubles. Bonilla is batting .266 (21-79) with eight runs scored.

Ciara Gonzales leads the Broncos with three wins and a 3.56 ERA. Gonzales has appeared in 25 games, made 12 starts, and tossed five complete games with one shutout. She leads the team with 92.1 innings pitched and has struck out 24. Jessica Turner has made 18 appearances, including nine starts, with three complete games. In 53.2 innings Turner leads the Broncos with 25 strikeouts. Briana Rios leads Santa Clara in strikeout rate with 23 punch-outs in 38.1 innings. She has made six starts and appeared in 15 games.

Cal enters the week with a 21-17 overall record and a 5-5 mark at home. Last week the Bears fell at Saint Mary's in a midweek game before dropping two of three to No. 9 Arizona at home.

Cheyenne Cordes leads Cal with a .416 (47-113) batting average. She is tied for the team-lead with 11 home runs and leads the Bears with 33 RBI. She has taken 20 walks to post a .496 on-base percentage and has a .814 slugging percentage. Cordes has added one triple and 10 doubles while scoring a team-high 37 runs. Danielle Henderson is tied for the team-lead with 11 home runs while batting .374 (40-107). She had taken a team-high 33 walks and leads Cal with a .525 OBP. Henderson has hit one triple and four doubles while scoring 29 runs and driving in 31.

Nisa Ontiveros is 9-7 with a team-leading 3.83 ERA in 86.0 innings. Ontiveros has pitched in 20 games and made 13 starts with five complete games. She has struck out 44 against 27 walks. Stephanie Trzcinski is 6-7 with a 3.89 ERA and leads Cal with 55 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched. She has appeared in 19 games while making 11 starts with five complete games and two shutouts.

Fresno State is 23-14 on the season and 3-4 on the road. The Bulldogs took two of three from San Diego State at home last weekend. They dropped the finale 2-0 in nine innings.

Brenna Moss leads Fresno State with a .383 (49-128) batting average and has a .432 OBP. Moss has scored a team-best 31 runs and driven in 11 while hitting two triples and four doubles. She leads the team with 24 steals in 28 attempts. Stesha Brazil is tops on the Bulldogs with seven home runs and 35 RBIs. Brazil is hitting .274 (32-117) with two triples, two doubles, and 25 runs scored. Vonnie Martin is hitting .269 (25-93) but has taken 32 walks to post a team-high .461 OBP. Martin has clubbed six home runs to go with two doubles, 24 RBIs, and 20 runs scored.

Jill Compton is 14-7 with a 2.31 ERA in a team-high 133.1 innings. Compton has pitched in 24 games and made 21 starts with 13 complete games and six shutouts. She has fanned 100 against 52 walks. Hannah Harris is 7-5 with a 2.89 ERA in 18 games, including 13 starts, with five complete games and three shutouts. Harris has tossed 65.1 innings and struck out 28.
