SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the first time in the inaugural season of West Coast Conference softball, Stephanie Fisher was named Player of the Week after hitting for the cycle against Cal and picking up a big hit in the Broncos' seventh inning rally to top Fresno State.
Santa Clara plays at Stanford Tues. April 22 at 6 p.m. before returning home to host rival Saint Mary's on Sat., April 26 and Sun., April 27.
"I am very honored to have been recognized as Player of the Week. I have never hit for the cycle before in my playing career," said Fisher. "I'm very proud of how my team has been playing lately. We have a greater sense of confidence that I haven't seen as much of in the past and it has helped us significantly improve this season. I am excited for the rest of the this season to see what our team can accomplish in the remaining weeks."
"Stephanie has had a hot bat and has really come through for the team in the clutch," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "She is a great leader on our team and just a great person to have around. We are very proud of what she has done."
At Cal on Tuesday Fisher hit for the cycle and scored two runs. Her home run in the top of the sixth gave Santa Clara a 2-1 lead. On Thursday vs. Fresno State Fisher had a hit in the seventh inning rally that gave the Broncos the walk-off 1-0 win. On the week Fisher hit .714 and posted a 1.571 slugging percentage.
On the season Fisher is second in the WCC with a .379 (39-103) batting average and nine doubles. Fisher has added two home runs and three triples to go with two steals. She has scored 13 runs and driven in 15.
