Bronco Softball Heads South to Los Angeles

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Heading down the coast, Santa Clara softball will play at Cal State Fullerton on Thurs., May 1 at 6 p.m. before playing a three game set with LMU over the weekend. The Broncos and Lions will square off Sat., May 3 at 10 am and 12 pm and Sun., May 4 at 12 p.m. Last week the Broncos dropped a game at Stanford before losing three tight games to Saint Mary's. Santa Clara is 7-30 overall on the season and 2-7 in West Coast Conference action.

Stephanie Fisher I second in the WCC in hitting with a .374 (43-115) batting average and is one of just two Broncos to play in every game this season. Fisher leads the team with nine doubles and is tied for the team-lead with 14 runs scored. She has added three home runs, two triples, and 16 RBI as well. Kelly Scribner leads the Broncos with six home runs and is batting .288 (30-104). Scribner is the only Bronco to start every game and leads the team with a .538 slugging percentage thanks to eight doubles. She has knocked in 14 runs and scored 13. Geenamarie Bonilla has a team-best 23 RBI and is batting .242 (23-95). Bonilla has added one triple, five doubles, and eight runs scored.

Ciara Gonzales leads Santa Clara in ERA (3.17), wins (4), appearances (31), starts (18), complete games (10), shutouts (2), innings pitched (132.2), and strikeouts (30). Jessica Turner is second on the team with 53.2 innings pitched and 25 strikeouts. Turner has appeared in 18 games while making nine starts and tossing three complete games. Brianna Rios has tossed 38.2 innings and fanned 23 while pitching in 16 games and making six starts.

Cal State Fullerton is 27-20-1 on the season coming into this week. Last week the Titans took two of three from Long Beach State during a midweek series and dropped two of three at Cal Poly.

Missy Taukeiaho leads the Titans with a .415 (61-147) batting average and has taken 33 walks to post a .530 on-base percentage. Taukeiaho has clubbed 15 home runs and knocked in 39 runs while scoring 49 and adding 12 doubles to go along with seven steals in seven chances. Leesa Harris is batting .369 (48-130) with 16 RBI and 28 runs scored to go with five triples and four doubles. Ariel Tsuchiyama is hitting .319 (44-138) with three home runs and 22 RBI. She has added 10 doubles and 19 runs scored.

Christin Washington is 9-5 with a team-low 3.81 ERA in 31 games, including 13 starts. She has tossed three complete games and one shutout over 108.1 innings while fanning 48. Jasmine Antunez leads the team in wins with a 10-9 record and innings pitched with 109.0. She has pitched in 34 games and made 24 starts with four complete games and a shutout. Antunez leads the Titans with 91 punch-outs.

LMU is 20-24 overall entering the week and 1-10 in conference play. Last weekend the Lions droped the first two games at BYU before the third game was canceled due to weather.

Meghan Harman leads LMU with a .369 (41-111) batting average, 23 walks, a .478 OBP, 10 home runs, 27 RBI, and 30 runs scored. Sterling Shuster is hitting .320 (33-103) with three home runs and two doubles. Shuster has scored 12 runs and driven in 23. Alex Finie has hit a team-best 10 doubles while hitting .281 (34-121). She has blasted four home runs to go with 16 RBI and 18 runs scored.

Sydney Gouveia leads the country in ERA with a 0.74 mark and is 12-2 over 84.2 innings. Gouveia has appeared in 14 games, including 13 starts with 10 complete games and four shutouts. She is also third in the conference with 136 strikeouts while surrendering just 26 walks. Rachael Farrington leads the Lions with 111.1 innings pitched over 28 appearances. Farrington has started 18 games and tossed eight complete games and picked up a save. She has struck out 44 against 18 walks.
