Scribner Named WCC Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a weekend sweep on the road in conference play, Santa Clara softball senior Kelly Scribner was named WCC Player of the Week on Monday. Scribner is the second Bronco to win the award this year, with fellow senior Stephanie Fisher garnering honors on April 21.

The Broncos return to the field Sat., May 10 at 12 p.m. vs. San Diego and against on Sun., May 11 at 10 a.m. for Senior Day.

"After this weekend I am very proud of my team," said Scribner. "Coming off a series where we didn't play our best or score many runs, everyone worked extremely hard and put in the extra effort to prepare for LMU. This weekend was a total team effort and everyone contributed. I am honored to have received WCC Player of the Week and couldn't have done so without my teammates. I was inspired by the determination and fight in my team and this led to a great weekend of all of us. Our team goal is to finish the season strong and this weekend shows that the team is determined to meet that goal."

"It is great to see Kelly be honored this week as she has been our rock on defense and played a fantastic first base," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "At the plate she is fierce and a batter to fear. She does not get cheated when she swings the bat and has come up with some clutch bombs this year."

Scribner had a big week for Santa Clara in their sweep of LMU. In the first game of the series Scribner was 3-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double, and a home run. In game two of the doubleheader she was 4-4 with a solo home run. She finished up the series with two walks and an RBI. In the Broncos four games on the week Scribner hit .583/.600/1.167 with two home runs, a doubles, four RBI, and three runs scored.
