Broncos Fall on Senior Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On Senior Day Santa Clara softball lost to San Diego by a final of 6-1. The Broncos finish 10-34 overall and 5-10 in WCC play while the Toreros are 26-21 and 10-5 in conference play.

Before the game Santa Clara honored seniors Stephanie Fisher, Kelly Scribner, Krista Jensen, Rochelle Rivera, and Jessica Turner.

Jessica Turner (4-10) started for Santa Clara and picked up a loss in 1.1 innings. Turner allowed four runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. Kimberly Goulart was 1-3 with an RBI to lead the offense. Jordan Newell was 1-3 with a run scored while Stephanie Fisher was 1-2 and Kelly Scribner had two walks.

Cassidy Coleman (14-10) started for San Diego and picked up a win in 6.1 innings. Coleman allowed one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Dan Prelsnik was 3-4 with tow triples, two RBI, and three runs scored to lead the offense. Caitlin Rooney was 2-3 with a double and a run scored while Charly Swanberg was 3-4 with a double.

Prelsnik led off the game with a sharp single to left and Tatum Shultz reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt. After the first out was recorded, Chloe Kaneko walked to load the bases. Kylie Ordos hit a sac fly to right center to get the Toreros on the board.

Santa Clara got a two-out rally going for free in the bottom of the first. Fisher was hit by a pitch and Scribner followed with a walk but a strikeout ended the inning.

Jenny Lahitte started the bottom of the second with an infield single and Swanberg followed with a double to right. Prelsnik smoked a 2-0 pitch into left center for a two-RBI triple that ended the day for Turner. Ciara Gonzales came in to pitch and gave up an RBI single to Shultz to make it 4-0.

Lahitte tripled leading off the fourth and came into score on an errant throw. With two down Rooney doubled to left and Ordos followed with a single through the left side to put runners on the corners. Olivia Sandusky knocked in the sixth run of the game with a single to right before the inning ended. 

Fisher started the home half of the fourth with a single up the middle for the first Bronco hit of the day. With one down Newell hit a ball off her fists 30 feet that went for an infield single. After the second out was recorded, Goulart came through with an RBI single to center and both runners moved up on the throw to the plate. 

Rochelle Rivera reached on an infield single with two down in the bottom of the seventh but the game ended on a pop up.
