James Discusses Her Mindset In Her Freshman Season

McCall James (MJ), a talented new addition to the Santa Clara softball team, sat down with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) to talk about pitching for the Broncos in her freshman season.

SCB: How has your freshman season been for you thus far? Did you have an expectations coming into the season?

MJ: My freshman season has been amazing so far. Coming into the season I was really excited. The fall season built up so much anticipation so it's awesome to finally be in full swing. During the fall season we saw huge potential for our team, and the effort and fight we gave in our first few games definitely reiterated it. I expected the season to be exciting and competitive, and so far it has been. Playing games every weekend is really fun because every week we have something to look forward to.

SCB: What game are you most looking forward to in the coming weeks?
MJ: I'm most looking forward to the BYU game this season. I've heard this game is always a lot of fun and super competitive.

SCB: Has there been a huge transition between high school softball and collegiate softball? If so, what are the major differences?

MJ: Transitioning from high school softball to collegiate softball went a lot better than I had anticipated, but there were definitely some differences that were hard to adjust to. The time commitment in college is a lot bigger than that in high school, so making time for homework and studying was challenging at first.

Another major difference, which I have only experienced twice so far, is missing classes for games. Catching up on material and homework while on the road is pretty difficult, especially when you're with the entire team.
