Broncos Set to Host Santa Clara Marriott Round Robin

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a three-win weekend in San Diego, Santa Clara softball returns home for its final home tournament of the season with the 2015 Santa Clara Marriott Round Robin. The Broncos open the tournament Fri., March 20 at 5:30 p.m. vs. Manhattan. Santa Clara will also play Brown and UC Santa Barbara. For the full schedule, click here. Last week the Broncos went 3-2 at the San Diego Classic to move to 8-19 on the season.

Santa Clara is hitting .265 (193-727) as a team with 34 doubles, three triples, and 16 home runs. They post a 5.30 ERA with 74 strikeouts and 75 walks in 177.0 innings.

Breezy Bernard leads Santa Clara in hitting with a .349 (29-85) batting average. Bernard has one home run, eight doubles, 15 RBI, and five runs scored. Jordan Newell has three home runs and 15 RBI to go with 12 runs scored and four doubles. She is batting .311 (23-74). Casandra Padilla also has three home runs to go with 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. Padilla has hit six doubles while batting .301 (22-73). Ellie Fisher leads the team with a .440 OBP thanks to a team-best 18 walks. Fisher also leads the team in runs scored with 16 and stolen bases with 12. She has one triple, seven RBI, and is hitting .300 (24-80). Gianetta France leads the Broncos with six home runs and 18 RBI. She has added four doubles and scored 12 runs to go with a .276 (21-76) average.

Ciara Gonzales leads Santa Clara with 78.2 innings pitched. She is 7-8 on the year with a 4.18 ERA in 21 games, including 14 starts with five complete games. She has stuck out a team-high 33 with 16 walks. Briana Rios has appeared in 13 games and made six starts while tossing one complete game shutout. Rios has thrown 41.1 innings with seven strikeouts. McCall James has appeared in 16 games and made five starts while throwing one complete game. She has thrown 42.0 innings with a save and 21 punch outs.

Brown is 2-3 on the season. The Bears are hitting .284 (40-141) as a team with six doubles, no triples, and six home runs. They post a 4.03 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 17 walks in 33.0 innings. They are being outscored on the season 30-27.

Janet Leung leads the team with a .526 (10-19) batting average. She has it one home run and one double to go with three RBI and a team-high six runs scored. Trista Chavez leads the team with six RBI and has scored three runs while hitting a double and a home run. Chavez is hitting .313 (5-16) on the year. Christina Andrews leads the team with three doubles and has five RBI to go with four runs scored. She is hitting .294 (5-17) on the year.

Katie Orona leads the Bears with a 2.62 ERA in 16.0 innings. She has appeared in three games and made two starts with two complete games for a 2-0 record. Orona has struck out 24 against nine walks. Jessica Cherness has appeared in three games and made one start while tossing 10.2 innings. She has a 3.94 ERA with six strikeouts and two walks. In two starts Leah Nakashima is 0-2 with a 7.74 ERA. She has thrown 6.1 innings with six walks and no strikeouts.

UC Santa Barbara is 8-19 on the season and 0-2 on the road. The Gauchos are hitting .303 (215-709) as a team with 29 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs. They post a 6.23 ERA with 77 strikeouts and 93 walks in 169.2 innings. They are being outscored on the season 221-111.

Arianna Palomares leads the Gauchos with a .404 (36-89) batting average. She has a team-high 10 doubles to go with 14 runs scored, 16 RBI, and a home run. Shelby Wisdom is tops on the team with four home runs and 21 RBI while scoring 12 runs. She is hitting .339 (21-62) and has added one triple. Meshalon Moore has scored a team-best 17 runs while hitting .310 (26-84). She has added two home runs, a triple, five doubles, and 14 RBI.

Alex Pingree has thrown a team-high 73.0 innings over 16 appearances and 11 starts. She has thrown four complete games while fanning 33 and walking 32. Pingree is 5-4 with a 4.51 ERA. Ashley Ludlow is 2-12 with a 6.49 ERA in 72.1 innings. She has appeared in 22 games and made 13 starts while throwing three complete games and picking up a save. Ludlow has struck out 36 and walked 40. Lena Mayer has thrown 24.1 innings over 15 games and three starts. She has struck out eight and walked 21 while going 1-3 with a 10.64 ERA.

Manhattan is 4-3 on the season. The Jaspers are hitting .292 (52-178) as a team with 17 doubles, one triple, and eight home runs. They post a 5.61 ERA with 36 strikeouts and 26 walks in 43.2 innings. They are outscoring opponents 53-41 this season.

Elena Bowman leads the team in hitting with a .611 (11-18) batting average. She also leads the team with 10 RBI and nine runs scored while tying for the team lead with three home runs. Jenn Vazquez also has three home runs to go with nine RBI and seven runs scored. She is hitting .273 (6-22) with two doubles. Amanda Paxson is batting .474 (9-19) with three runs scored, four RBI, and three doubles.

Amy Bright leads the Jaspers with 22.2 innings pitched and 27 strikeouts against 10 walks. She is 2-2 with a 6.18 ERA in four games and three starts with one complete game. Briana Matazinsky leads the team with a 3.75 ERA over 9.1 innings. She is 1-0 over four games and two starts with a complete game. Matazinsky has struck out five and walked six. Danielle Gabriel is 1-1 with a 4.45 ERA in 11.0 innings. She has started two games with one complete game and has struck out four against nine walks.
