Softball Travels to Cal, San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After taking two of three over the weekend, Santa Clara softball returns to the field for a midweek game at No. 15 Cal on Tues., April 14 at 3 p.m. before heading south for more WCC action. The Broncos will face San Diego Sat., April 18 at 12 and 2 p.m. and Sun., April 19 at 12 p.m. With two wins over Saint Mary's last weekend Santa Clara is 13-26 overall this season and 3-3 in conference play.

Santa Clara is hitting .267 (277-1039) as a team with 48 doubles, four triples, and 18 home runs. They post a 4.25 ERA with 96 strikeouts and 95 walks in 260.0 innings.

Ellie Fisher leads the team in hitting with a .361 (43-119) batting average and OBP with a .476 mark thanks to a team-best 24 walks. She is also tied for the WCC lead with 19 steals in 22 tries. She has added a double, a triple, nine RBI, and a team-high 24 runs scored. Breezy Bernard is hitting .322 (39-121) and is tied with a conference-best 12 doubles. She also leads Santa Clara with 23 RBI while adding a home run and six runs scored. Jordan Newell is hitting .318 (35-110) with four home runs and seven doubles. She has scored 15 runs and knocked in 19. Gianetta France leads the team with six home runs and has added four doubles. France is batting .258 (23-89) with 18 RBI and 12 runs scored.

Ciara Gonzales leads Santa Clara in wins (10), ERA (3.12), innings (123.1), appearances (30), starts (21), complete games (10), shutouts (2), and strikeouts (43). Briana Rios has thrown 55.0 innings with a 4.58 ERA. Rios has appeared in 17 games and made seven starts with one complete game shutout. McCall James has pitched in 22 games and made eight starts with two complete games and one shutout. She also has a save in 62.2 innings with 30 strikeouts. Micaela Vierra has appeared in 11 games and made three starts. She has thrown 19.0 innings and struck out 13.

Cal is 31-9 on the season and 7-4 at home. The Bears are hitting .346 (386-1116) as a team with 50 doubles, 14 triples, and 34 home runs. They post a 3.10 ERA with 155 strikeouts and 87 walks in 264.0 innings. They are outscoring opponents 263-136 this season.

Jazmyn Jackson leads the team with a .442 (65-147) batting average. She has hit one home run, a team-best four triples, and six doubles to go with 18 RBI and 41 runs scored. Britt Vonk leads the team with 45 runs scored and has knocked in 16 with a triple and four doubles. She is second on the roster in hitting with a .418 (46-110) batting average. Cheyenne Cordes leads the team with 13 home runs and 60 RBI. She has scored 31 runs to go with eight doubles and a .398 (53-133) average.

Katie Sutherland-Finch leads the Bears with 116.2 innings pitched in 26 games and 22 starts. She has thrown 11 complete games with two shutouts and has three saves. Sutherland-Finch is 13-5 with a 3.06 ERA and has a team-best 80 strikeouts against 40 walks. Stephanie Trzcinski has a 2.96 ERA to go with a 13-3 record. In 24 games, including 11 starts, six complete games, and three shutouts, she has a save in 104.0 innings. Trzcinski has struck out 53 with 22 walks.

San Diego is 26-17 on the season and 5-1 in conference action. The Toreros are hitting .268 (296-1106) as a team with 33 doubles, 10 triples, and 20 home runs. They post a 2.58 ERA with 186 strikeouts and 111 walks in 292.2 innings. They are outscoring opponents 169-143 this season.

Kailey Hill leads the team with a .348 (39-11) batting average, 10 home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, and three triples. She has added six doubles as well. Olivia Sandusky is hitting .339 (41-121) with three home runs, a triple, and five doubles. She has scored 21 runs to go with 19 RBI and a team-high eight steals in 11 tries. Mary Grabowski is batting .290 (29-100) with two home runs, a triple, and seven doubles. She has knocked in 21 runs with nine runs scored.

Paige von Sprecken is 19-7 with a 1.74 ERA in 173.1 innings. She has appeared in 31 games with 24 starts, 17 complete games, four shutouts, and one save. von Sprecken has fanned 120 with 56 walks. Grace Hernandez is 6-6 with a 3.00 ERA in 22 games and 15 starts with six complete games and four saves. She has struck out 36 with 37 walks in 87.0 innings.
