
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – On the final day of the Gaucho Classic II, Santa Clara softball (5-28) lost to Seattle (14-19) 4-3 and Cal State Bakersfield (8-18) 2-1 on Saturday morning.
Game 1
For the second day in a row Santa Clara suffered a walk-off defeat. Paige Bouska led off the bottom of the second with a single and would move to third on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt. Isabella Geronimo came through with the game-winning single to left.
Geronimo was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Savannah Loomis had a double and two RBIs as well for Seattle.
Alyssa Reuble (5-5) picked up the win in the complete game. She allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
McCall James (2-14) tossed 3 innings in relief and picked up the loss. She allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Things started out well for Santa Clara when the first three batters reached in the top of the second. Garner doubled in a run and would come in two batters later on a wild pitch to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead.
Kelsie Barnard was 2-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI to lead the Santa Clara offense. Chiara Biagini added here hits and Justine Garner added a run and an RBI.
A two-run double by Savannah Loomis in the bottom of the fourth got Seattle on the board and made it a 3-2 game. The next half inning the Redhawks would tie the score at 3-all to set up the walk-off.
Game 2
Santa Clara was able to put the tying runs in scoring position with one out in the top of the second. Jordan Dawkins knocked in a run with a ground out but the Broncos weren't able to even the score.
Bakersfield made a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth hold up. A double and a walk put runners on the corners for the Roadrunners with one down and Jo Larios came through with a first-pitch double to center to bring in both base runners.
James (2-14) got the start for Santa Clara and allowed just the two runs on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout while picking up the loss.
Biagini had two hits and scored a run for the Broncos.
Alyssa Stockton (1-4) went 4 shutout innings and allowed two hits with two strikeouts to pick up the win.
Sydney Raeber got the save in 1/3 of an inning by stranding the tying run on third.
Santa Clara returns to action Wednesday at 6 p.m. vs. Stanford at the Santa Clara Softball Stadium.
