Six-Run Third Drops Softball in Finale at LMU

LOS ANGELES – In the finale of a three-game West Coast Conference series, Santa Clara softball fell to LMU 8-0 in five innings on Sunday afternoon.

LMU (28-19, 6-3 WCC) scored six runs in the third to take control of the game and would add single runs in the fourth and fifth to put the game away.

Amanda Dirks picked up a hit and two RBIs while Meghan Von Behren smacked a home run and scored two runs while going 2-3 for the Lions.

Micaela Vierra (4-16) picked up the loss in 2 1/3 innings for the Broncos. She allowed six runs, five earned, on four hits with four walks and a strikeout.

Santa Clara (7-35, 2-4 WCC) got two hits each from Amanda Delfino and Justine Garner to account for the Bronco offense.

Rachael Farrington (13-7) got the win in the 5-inning complete game. She allowed four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Santa Clara returns to action Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. vs. San Diego at home.
