Softball Hosts Bronco Classic This Weekend

SANTA CLARA, Calif.
– Santa Clara softball hosts its first of three tournaments this weekend as the Broncos welcome Montana and Seattle to the SCU Softball Stadium for the Bronco Classic. They will take on Montana and Seattle each day, for a total of six games over three days.

The Broncos opened the season Saturday with a doubleheader vs. UC Davis. They pitched well, allowing just four total runs, but struggled with the bats and fell by finals of 2-1 and 2-0.

Santa Clara is 0-1 all-time vs. Montana and 2-6 all-time vs. Seattle.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (0-2) had a great season-opener in the circle. Both Micaela Vierra and Aubree Kim tossed complete games but both picked up losses. Vierra allowed two unearned runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Kim allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Amanda Delfino was the only Bronco to collect multiple hits in the opener and she went 2-6 with a pair of singles. Morgan Modesto had the lone extra base hit with a double. Ellie Fisher scored the Santa Clara run when she stole second and came around on a bad throw.

THE GRIZZLIES
Montana (2-3) is hitting .311 as a team with four home runs, one triple, and 10 doubles. The Grizzlies have scored 25 runs while drawing 20 walks and swiping eight bases in as many tries. They have a 5.31 ERA as a team with 29 strikeouts and 24 walks in 31 2/3 innings.

Bethan Olea and MaKenna McGill are tied for the team-lead with a .625 batting average. Olea leads the team with five RBI and has one home run and three doubles while also scoring four runs. McGill has scored a team-high six runs and has a double and a triple to go with two RBIs. Delene Colburn leads the team with two home runs and is hitting .278.

Colleen Driscoll leads the team with a 2.74 ERA and is 1-1. In two games, including one start, she has tossed 7 2/3 innings. Michaela Hood has appeared in four games and made one start with two saves. She has a 3.00 ERA with a team-high 12 strikeouts but has also walked 10 in 9 1/3 innings.

THE REDHAWKS
Seattle (0-5) has been outscored on the season 33-7. The Redhawks are hitting .244 as a team with one home run, one triple, and one double. In the circle, they have posted a 6.78 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 20 walks in 32 innings.

Paige Bouska is the team's leading hitting with a .389 average. She has scored two runs and knocked in one to go with a triple. Kaylee Ree is hitting .333 with a run scored and an RBI. Savannah Loomis has hit the team's only home run but is hitting just .143.

Alyssa Reuble thrown a team-high 14 2/3 innings in four games and two starts. She has one complete game and seven strikeouts but a 7.64 ERA. Andie Larkins has started three games and has gone the distance once. In 12 1/3 innings, she has struck out nine and walked 11 with a 7.38 ERA.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to first pitch. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
