Full Tournament Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Geenamarie Bonilla provided the fireworks for Santa Clara softball with her walk off three-run home run against Lehigh to give the Broncos the 6-3 win in the night cap Friday. Earlier in the day Santa Clara fell to Grand Canyon 7-4.

Game 2
After Santa Clara (7-15) took advantage of three Lehigh (7-13) errors to tie the game at 3-all in the bottom of the seventh, Bonilla stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run, walk-off home run over the left center field wall.

"It was great to see Geena come through with the clutch hit for us," Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize said. "We were able to take advantage of their mistakes and finally got the big hit. We had some chances in both games so I was glad to see us come through at the end."

Bonilla finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored, and three RBIs. Morgan Modesto and Eleni Spirakis each added a hit and an RBI.

In 6 innings out of the bullpen, Ciara Gonzalez (2-5) picked up the win. She allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Aubree Kim started for the Broncos and allowed an unearned run on one hit with two walks in an inning.

After both teams scored a run in the first, Lehigh got the go-ahead run to come in on a fielding error by Spirakis with two outs in the top of the third. The Mountain Hawks took advantage of a lead-off hit-by-pitch in the next inning to get on top 3-1.

Mary-Hannah Smith scored two runs for Lehigh and Ashley Rabago and Lindsay Philips each knocked in a run.

Parker Boyd (1-4) went 6 2/3 innings for Lehigh and got the loss. She allowed five runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Game 1
After falling behind 7-0 in the first, Santa Clara (6-15) rallied to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't come through with the big hit.

After a pair of runs came in on an infield single and an error in the seventh, Spirakis drew a walk to put two on with the Broncos down 7-4. Modesto just missed her pitch and popped out to end the game.

Bonilla was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Adele Elkind finished with two hits and an RBI. Kelsie Barnard added a pair of RBIs and Kimberly Goulart collected two hits and scored a run.

Kim came out of the bullpen for the Broncos and was brilliant to allow the team to get back into it. She tossed six shutout innings while allowing just two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Grand Canyon (24-5) blew it open in the first inning with all seven of their runs. The Lopes sent 12 batters to plate in the frame and collected six hits.

Megan Stevens and Camree Wartman were both 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jenna Coates, Kendsey Hill, and Shea Smith were all 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Bronco starter McCall James (0-2) picked up the loss in 1 inning. She allowed seven runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Santa Clara got on the board with a two-out hit in the bottom of the fourth. Bonilla doubled to left to put runners on second and third and Barnard came through with the clutch base hit to right that made it 7-2.

Mariah Valencia (5-2) went the distance for Grand Canyon. She allowed four runs, one earned, on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout.

The Broncos are back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. vs. Long Beach State and at 7 p.m. vs. Northwestern.
