Softball Drops Two to Seattle, UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball fell to Seattle 5-3 and UC Santa Barbara 2-1 Saturday afternoon in the Gaucho Classic II.

Game 1
Some sloppy defense and nice hitting in the top of the third led to four runs for Seattle (10-20). The Redhawks would add an insurance run in the seventh behind four-straight hits.

Kaylee Ree was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Seattle offense. Alyson Matriotti finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Alyssa Reuble (6-6) picked up the complete game victory. She allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Ellie Fisher and Taylor Burns did their best to keep Santa Clara (7-20) in the game. In the third and fifth, Fisher reached and moved up to second before being knocked in by Burns. In the seventh, Fisher came into score when Burns reached on an error.

Fisher finished 3-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, and three runs scored and Burns was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

McCall James (0-3) went the distance and got the loss. She allowed five runs, two earned, on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Game 2
UC Santa Barba (16-14) scored twice in the third for the only runs they would need. With two down and a runner on second, a single and double brought in the two runs.

Sierra Altmeyer and Jessica Johnston both picked up RBIs for the Guachos with Johnson and Kristen Clark scoring a run each.

Veronika Gulvin (10-6) got the win in a complete game. She allowed an unearned run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Santa Clara (7-21) got a run back in the fifth thanks to an error. Kimberly Goulart led off by reaching on an error and stole second with two down. Kelsie Barnard followed with an RBI single to right center.

Fisher, Burns, and Amanda Delfino each added a hit for the Bronco offense.

Aubree Kim (2-7) went 3 innings in the start and got the loss. She allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Santa Clara plays Seattle tomorrow at 9 a.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 11 a.m.
