SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball opens the West Coast Conference season Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. at Saint Mary's. The teams will close the series at noon on Sunday.
On Tuesday, the Broncos beat Sacramento State 2-1 behind some good pitching and defense.

THE BRONCOS

Micaela Vierra has thrown a team-high 63 2/3 innings with four wins. Aubree Kim has pitched in a team-leading 20 games and has a team-best three complete games. She and Vierra have each fanned 34 to lead the team.
THE GAELS
Saint Mary's (14-18) is hitting .242 as a team with a .314 OBP and a .306 slugging percentage. The Gaels have scored 86 runs with four home runs, seven triples, and 26 doubles.
Nikki Alexander is tops on the team with a .359 batting average and 18 runs scored. Hailey Sparacino is hitting .281 and has a team-high 22 RBIs to go with 10 runs scored. Cara Deimercurio has hit two home runs, the only Gael with more than one. She is hitting .239 with seven runs scored and eight RBIs.
Katie Moss leads Saint Mary's in ERA (2.10), wins (8), appearances (22), starts (13), complete games (8), shutouts (1), saves (2), innings (100), and strikeouts (94). Katlyn Whitt has tossed 58 2/3 innings with a 2.98 ERA and Eryn McCoy has added 43.0 innings of 2.77 ERA pitching.
