Softball Drops Midweek Contest at Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped a midweek game at Cal 7-0 Wednesday evening.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Bronco starter Micaela Vierra in the first inning. After a scoreless second, Cal (23-13) scored in each of the next three innings to pull away.

Jazmyn Jackson was 3-for-4 with a double out of the lead-off spot for the Bears. Annie Aldrete added two hits and three RBIs and Kobie Pettis added a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Vierra (5-8) got the loss in 3 innings. She allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Santa Clara (10-25) offense was limited to singles from five different players and one walk. After a single to lead off the game by Ellie Fisher, Cal starter Zoe Conley retired the next 11 in a row before Morgan Modesto's single in the fourth ended the streak.

Conley (13-8) tossed a complete game to pick up the victory. She allowed five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

The Broncos are back in action tomorrow at 6 p.m. at home vs. Fresno State.
