Softball Downed by Stanford Comeback

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Despite jumping out to a 4-1 lead, Santa Clara softball dropped its final midweek game of the season at Stanford 6-5 Tuesday evening.

With two down and runners on first and second in the sixth, Bessie Noll came up with the game-winning hit when she doubled to left center.

In the previous half inning, Amanda Delfino tied the score at 5-all with a two out double of her own that brought in Adele Elkind.

Stanford (17-22) got four hits and a walk against Santa Clara (11-29) starter Aubree Kim in the bottom of the fourth before Micaela Vierra came in to get the final out.

Kristina Inouye had the big bat for the Cardinal, going 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs. Kylie Sorenson added a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Vierra (5-10) ended up with the loss in 2 1/3 innings. She allowed one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Broncos scored two in the second and two more in the third to get on top 4-1. Geenamarie Bonilla knocked in the first run with a bunt single and Taylor Bojorquez had an RBI groundout. In the third, Bonilla roped a two-run double.

Bonilla led the Bronco offense with a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBIs while also scoring a run. Delfino had a double and an RBI as well.

The Broncos are back in action Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. at San Diego.
