SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball announced the addition of two players for the 2018 season. The Broncos will welcome Emily Eudy of Hawthorne, Calif. and Samantha Johnson-Needham of Poway, Calif. They join four other players who signed National Letters of Intent in December.
"We are excited to have Samantha and Emily join next year's freshman class," Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize said. "Both players can swing it and have proven to provide offensive power at the plate. Samantha and Emily are versatile utility players that can play both the infield and outfield with Emily having some catching experience."
Johnson-Needham is a first baseman and outfielder who played at Poway High School. In her four years, she was named All-CIF and All-League honorable mention as a freshman. She was Second Team All-League as a sophomore and honorable mention as a junior. She also brought home Rookie of the Year honors in 2014.
During Johnson-Needham's sophomore season, Poway was the CIF open division champion and league champions. As a junior, her team was the CIF runner up and Poway also won their league her first year.
Johnson-Needham plans to major in communications and off the field enjoys hanging out with friends and editing videos.
Eudy plays first base and outfield and attended Mira Costa High School. Her junior year she won the Bay League Triple Crown with a .552 batting average, six home runs, and 29 RBIs. For her play, she was named team MVP, First Team All-Conference, All-City Second Team, and All-District. As a sophomore Eudy was Second Team All-League.
All four years of high school Eudy was named her school's scholar athlete and was a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Charlaine Deatherage Award for the highest-ranking juniors a year ago.
She plans to major in mathematics and psychology. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and listening to music.
