SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the finale of a three-game series, Santa Clara softball lost 4-1 to Pacific Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers had runners all over the bases but were just 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11. The Broncos, on the other hand, were no-hit for the first 4 2/3 innings.
Santa Clara (12-34, 4-8 WCC) starter Aubree Kim (3-11) pitched around trouble in all of her four-plus innings. She allowed six hits and three walks but was able to strand two runners in each of the first four innings. Of the three runs Kim allowed, just one was earned.
The first two runs of the game came in part to the tough sun. In the first, the Broncos lost a pair of balls just behind third base and in the fourth another ball lost in the sun led to a 2-0 Pacific (24-24, 7-5 WCC) lead.

The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth behind two hits and an error.
Cassidy Gustafson was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored to lead the Pacific offense and Sydney Lahners added a pair of hits as well.
Marissa Young (9-6) started for the Tigers and threw her second complete game of the series. She allowed an unearned run on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
Santa Clara got on the board with a two-out rally in the fifth. Gianetta France got the first Bronco hit when she doubled to left center and after an error put runners on the corners, Ellie Fisher singled to left for the RBI.
Taylor Burns was the only Bronco to reach base more than once. She had a single and drew a walk.
The Broncos return to action Friday at 4 and 6 p.m. vs. first place BYU.
