Softball Falls on Senior Day to No. 20 BYU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the final day of the season, Santa Clara softball fell to No. 20 BYU 19-5 in five innings Saturday afternoon.

BYU (40-10, 12-0 WCC) exploded for 11 runs against Santa Clara (12-37, 4-11 WCC) starter Ciara Gonzales in the first inning behind nine hits, a walk, and two errors.

Gonzales (3-7), in her final collegiate start, got the loss in 2/3 of an inning. Of the 11 runs she allowed, just three were earned.

The Broncos got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the second off of Kerisa Viramontes who entered for starter McKenna Bull after the big first inning. The first four Broncos all reached via singles to bring in the first run. Gianetta France, Ellie Fisher, and Amanda Delfino all picked up RBIs in the inning.

Fisher finished the day 3-for-3 and Eleni Spirakis was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Viramontes (2-2) ended up the win in 1 inning out the bullpen. She allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits. Arianna Paulson got her second save of the season while tossing 3 innings of relief.

Prior to the game the Delfino, France, Gonzales, Taylor Bojorquez, Geenamarie Bonilla, and Kimberly Goulart were honored in a Senior Day ceremony.
