SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara head softball coach Lisa Mize has decided to leave her current position.

"I have decided to step down and pursue other opportunities," said Mize. "I have been blessed to coach at Santa Clara and will forever be a Bronco fan and supporter. The future is bright for Santa Clara softball and I look forward to seeing its continued success."

Mize compiled a 97-404 mark, including 38-142 in league play, during her nine seasons as head coach which spanned play both in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference (2008-13) and West Coast Conference (beginning in 2014).

"We'd like to thank Lisa for more than one decade of service to the program," said director of athletics Renee Baumgartner. "We wish her luck and appreciate her dedication to our student-athletes."

During Mize's tenure, the Broncos had 27 all-league honorees and there were 84 members of the conference All-Academic team.

Mize spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons as a Santa Clara assistant coach as well as interim head coach. She was elevated to head coach in July 2008.

She has owned the Lisa Mize Fastpitch Academy since 2001. In addition, Mize was proprietor of the Olympian School of Softball from 1993-2001, where she gave private pitching and hitting instruction.

Mize was a pitcher on the Puerto Rican National Team from 1989-96 and competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

She concluded her collegiate playing career at Fresno State, helping the Bulldogs reach the 1993 NCAA Regional final.

Baumgartner will immediately begin a national search for Mize's successor.
