Softball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

 

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent for the 2019 season. The Broncos will welcome Kaitlyn Anderson, Emma Bickford, Allyson Ferreira, and Alexandria Hale.

"This class is really versatile with kids that are athletic and can play a lot of different positions," Santa Clara head coach Lisa Dodd said. "We have some power hitters and a little bit of speed. There are both infielders and outfields to cover us for what we lose after this year. They're all excited about coming to Santa Clara and being Broncos. Watching them develop together will take the program up and they all bring a lot of energy."

Kaitlyn Anderson | OF | R/R | 5-9 | Tucson, Ariz. | Clenega
Anderson was named her team's most valuable player as a sophomore and junior as a member of the .400 hitters club while serving as a captain her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was named first team all-conference, 5A All-Stars First Team, and 5A Southern First Team as a junior. Her sophomore year, Anderson was Division II All-Stars First Team and Division II Section 1 Second Team.

In the classroom, she was named to the Bobcat All-Academic Team as a sophomore and a junior. Anderson has been on the honor roll each of her first three years in high school and was on the Principal Recognition Distinction list as a junior. She is also a member of the National Society of High Scholl Scholars.

Anderson plans to major in business. Off the field, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family and going hiking.

"Kaitlyn plays on one of the top travel ball teams in Arizona. She's big, strong, and fast and will be in the outfield for us."

Emma Bickford | IF | R/R | 5-7 | Sammamish, Wash. | Eastlake
Bickford was selected by OnDeck Softball for the Colorado Jamboree. As a member of the Colorado Sparkler she was picked for the all-star game and was an All-American of the All-Academic game.

She received the Academic Excellence Award for maintain a 4.0 PGA through high school and won the Outstanding Leadership Award.

Bickford plans to major in finance and wants to become a financial planner or an accountant. She enjoys spending time with family friends in her free time.

"Emma is on one of the top travel teams in Washington. She's a great athlete that also plays volleyball and can do a lot of things for us."

Allyson Ferreira | IF | R/R | 5-4 | Brentwood, Calif. | Freedom
As a junior Ferreira hit .431/.456/.611 and was 4-for-4 in stolen bases with a .949 fielding percentage. That season her team won were North Coast Section champions and made it to the semifinals in the playoffs.

Ferreira was Second Team All-East Bay, second team all-conference, and San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro Softball honorable mention as a sophomore. She was named all-conference honorable mention as a freshman.

She plans to major in business and wants to travel to as many places as possible. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and spending time with friends.

"Allyson is a great middle infielder that will help with our depth. She gives us the ability to move some people around at times and improve the infield defense while making us more athletic there."

Alexandria Hale | 1B | L/L | 5-5 | Elk Grove, Calif. | Elk Grove
Hale has been a team captain each year of high school and was the MVP her junior season. As a junior, she was second team all-conference and all-district and as a sophomore was all-conference and all-district honorable mention.

She won the award for most inspirational as a sophomore and one for upholding the culture on the softball team. She is also the female representative for Kingco Sportsmanship committee.

Hale was also honorable mention in volleyball where she was a co-captain as a senior and won the culture award as a junior. She also played one year of basketball.

She wants to be a medical researcher and plans to major in Biology. In her free time, Hale enjoys hiking, reading, listening to music, and traveling.

"Alexandria is a big lefty hitter that plays the corner. She's going to hit for power and is versatile enough that we can put her on the infield or in the outfield."
