SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball opens its 2018 home slate Wednesday at 6 p.m. against local rival San Jose State.

The Broncos fell four times at the Stanford Nike Invitational over the weekend, twice each to Cal Poly and the host Cardinal.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (0-9) has hit 13 doubles and one triple as a team while scoring 20 runs. Taylor Burns' .286 average leads the team as does her five RBIs. She has scored four runs and added two doubles and a triple. Ellie Fisher has scored a team-high six runs and also leads the team with seven steals in eight attempts. Morgan Modesto has hit a team-best four doubles and is hitting .261.

In the circle, Micaela Vierra has thrown a team-high 27 1/3 innings over seven games, including four starts. She has tossed a pair of complete games. Aubree Kim has appeared in five games and made four starts while throwing 21 1/3 innings.

THE SPARTANS
San Jose State (9-7) has hit 16 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs while batting .278 as a team and scoring 96 runs.

Cassidy Clark leads the team with a .408 average and has scored 11 runs with four RBIs. Madison Aurin leads the Spartans with four home runs and 18 RBIs and is hitting .292 with 10 runs scored. Brittany Abacherli leads the team with 12 runs scored despite hitting just .195, thanks to 10 walks and a hit-by-pitch.

San Jose State has a 3.81 team ERA with Desiree Severance leading the way with a 1.71 mark in 16 1.3 innings. Carolina Bowman has appeared in 11 games with seven starts and has five complete games, including a shutout. She also leads the Spartans with 28 strikeouts.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to first pitch. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
