Softball Swept Behind Quiet Bats

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – On the first day of the ShareSLO Mustang Classic, Santa Clara softball was topped by North Dakota 3-0 and Marist 7-0.

Game 1
In the opener, Kaylin VanDomlen (6-5) tossed a perfect game to lead the Fighting Hawks (12-9) to victory. She struck out 14 in her second no-hitter of the year.

A three-run sixth was the only scoring in the game. Marina Marzolino knocked in all three runs with a double to left center with one out in the inning.

Aubree Kim started for the Broncos (2-14) and allowed just one hit through 3 innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Micaela Vierra picked up the loss for the Broncos in 3 innings out of the bullpen. She allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Game 2
Marist (5-6) starter Megan Beiermeister (3-2) tossed a three-hit shutout with five walks and nine strikeouts to collect the win.

The Red Foxes scored a run in the second and two in the fourth before a four-spot in the sixth all but put the game away.

Lauren Beal was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs and Jade Sinskul added two RBIs and scored a run as well. Three others scored two runs each.

McCall James (0-2) started for Santa Clara (2-15) and got the loss in 5 innings. She allowed three runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Hannah Russell, Kelsie Barnard, and Eleni Spirakis all had singles for the Broncos.

UP NEXT
The Broncos play tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Marist and at 3 p.m. vs. North Dakota.
