Softball Drops Rubber Match to San Diego in Extras

Santa Clara, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped the rubber match of its first home conference series of the year 4-3 in eight innings to San Diego Sunday afternoon.

The Toreros (25-18, 4-2) answered the Broncos (6-30, 1-5) scoring the tying run in the seventh with a run in the top of the eighth after a lead-off double by Madison Casiano and a one out RBI single from Kane.

Casiano finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored and Lauren Kane added two hits and two RBIs. Sara Silveyra was 1-for2 with a walk, a double, a run scored, and an RBI as well.

Down to their final out, the Broncos tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the seventh when Morgan Modesto singled to left to score Kelsie Barnard.

Four Broncos each collected two hits with Taylor Burns adding a double and two RBIs and Modesto scoring a run and knocking one in. Eleni Spirakis was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Katherine Sanchez had a pair of singles. The Broncos, however, stranded 14 runners on the day.

After blowing the save in the seventh, Halle Kyler (6-7) pitched a scoreless eighth to get the win.

Aubree Kim (3-14) started for the fourth straight game and picked up a loss while allowing four runs on eight hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
