Regular Season Concludes for Softball with Weekend Series Against Saint Mary's

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball closes the 2018 season with a three-game set against Saint Mary's at home Friday and Saturday. The teams play at 6 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.

Prior to the games Saturday, the Broncos will honor seniors Ellie Fisher, McCall James, and Micaela Vierra.

Last week the Broncos fell at Stanford 5-1 in the final nonconference game of the year.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (7-36, 2-10) is led on offense by Hannah Russell and her .315 batting average. Russell has five doubles and 16 RBIs with six runs scored. Taylor Burns has a home run and leads the team with 20 RBIs and has scored eight runs. Ellie Fisher leads the Broncos with 22 runs scored and 16 steals with Eleni Spirakis knocking in 15 and scoring 14 runs.

In the circle, Aubree Kim leads Santa Clara in appearances (32), starts (23), complete games (10), innings pitched (134), and strikeouts (76). She also has a complete game. Micaela Vierra has appeared in 23 games and made 13 starts with five complete games and a shutout while tossing 81 2/3 innings.

THE GAELS
Saint Mary's (14-32, 2-10) has lost five of six after being swept at BYU and dropping two of three at home to Pacific.

Kimiko Zapanta leads the team with a .321 batting average and 19 runs scored while leading the conference with 37 steals in 40 attempts. Hailey Sparacino has a team-high five home runs and 24 RBIs and has also scored 16 runs while Julia McCormack is hitting .276 with three home runs and 23 RBIs while leading the Gaels with 11 doubles.

Katlyn Whitt has tossed a team-leading 115 1/3 innings with 45 strikeouts. She has five complete games and one shutout. Eileen Perez has a team-best eight complete games and also has one shutout while pitching 109 1/3 innings.

Gates to the Santa Clara Softball Stadium, as well as its ticket booth, are open one hour prior to the start of the game.

Parking: For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to first pitch. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located on Palm Drive.
