Five Softball Players Honored for Work in the Classroom

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball had five players honored by the West Coast Conference for their work in the classroom, it was announced Thursday.

Kelsie Barnard, Jordan Dawkins, Aubree Kim, and Eleni Spirakis were named to the WCC All-Academic Team while Adele Elkind brought home honorable mention.

It was the second year in a row Barnard has been on the list. The sophomore has a 3.44 GPA as a Chemistry major. She has played in all 43 games and made 41 starts with three doubles, four RBIs, and four runs scored.

Dawkins, a junior, has a 3.49 GPA as a communications major. She has appeared in 34 games and started 26 with a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored.

Kim, a sophomore Business major, maintains a 3.53 GPA. She has pitched in 32 games with 23 starts and 10 complete games. She has pitched 134 innings with 76 strikeouts and tossed Santa Clara's fourth no-hitter at Pacific on April 28.

The sophomore Spirakis is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and has a 3.94 GPA. She has started all 43 games with six doubles, one triple, 15 RBIs, and 14 runs scored.

Elkind, a sophomore, has a 3.31 GPA in Psychology. She has started seven games and appeared in 30 while scoring six runs.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC- sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.

The Broncos conclude the season this weekend with a three-game set against Saint Mary's at home. The three Santa Clara seniors will be honored pregame on Saturday before a noon doubleheader.
