Softball Falls to Bucknell in First Midweek Game

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped its first midweek game of the year 8-4 to Bucknell Tuesday evening at San Jose State.

The Broncos (4-13) committed four errors, including three in a decisive fifth inning, that led to four unearned runs coming across for the Bison (7-10).

Santa Clara briefly took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth before the defensive woes began. A walk to leadoff the frame came in to score on the first error of the inning and after a hit batter, back-to-back errors brought home the go-ahead runs.

Lauren Hadley was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a double with Anna Gimmestad scoring three runs and Jess Hom coming across twice.

Raeanne Geffert (4-6) got the victory while going the distance. She allowed four runs, two earned, on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Broncos were able to rally with two outs in the fourth to get on top. With two on an two down, Kat Sanchez singled to right to bring home Kelsie Barnard. Eleni Spirakis followed by reaching on an error that allowed two more runs to come across.

Hannah Russell collected three hits and an RBI with Emily Eudy adding a triple and a run scored. Morgan Modesto picked up two hits as well.

Regan Dias (3-3) took the loss in the complete game. She allowed eight runs, four earned, on five hits with six walks and three strikeouts.

The Broncos are off to the Capital Classic beginning Friday in Davis.
