Softball Drops Series Finale at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped its series finale at UC Riverside 4-2 Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos (7-18) briefly took a lead with two in the fifth but the Highlanders (17-12) answered back with three in the bottom of the frame.

Emma Ramelot got the scoring going in the fifth with a one-out solo shot to left that tied the game and Melanie Olmos put her team back on top three batters later with a two-run blast to center.

Amanda Lynch also added a pair of hits, including a solo home run, for Riverside with Danielle Ortega picking up two hits and a walk as well as scoring a run.

Jacy Boles (9-2) got the win in 3 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. She allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with a strikeout. Starter Megan Casper lasted 3 1/3 innings while allowing two hits and two walks.

After a leadoff single by Eleni Spirakis in the top of the fifth, she moved to second on a wild pitch and came in to score on an error that put Regan Dias on first. Two batters later, Jordan Dawkins doubled in the second run of the inning to make it 2-1.

Spirakis finished the day with a pair of hits and a walk to lead the Santa Clara offense.

Lauren Anderson (1-7) took the loss while tossing 6 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with four walks.

The Broncos are off to the Fresno State Invitational beginning Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield at 11 a.m. and a game against Fresno State at 4:30 p.m.
