SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Opening the home portion of its West Coast Conference schedule, Santa Clara softball split with LMU Friday evening.
The Broncos (10-29, 2-3 WCC) won game one in walk-off fashion 4-3 after trailing by three headed to the seventh but the Lions (29-17, 5-3 WCC) won the second game of the day 10-5.
Game 1
A wild four-run seventh inning comeback lifted Santa Clara (10-29, 2-3 WCC) to victory in the day's opener.
With two runs already across in the inning, Morgan Modesto stepped to the plate with the winning run on second in the form of Kelsie Barnard who had reached on an RBI single and stole second. Modesto poked a single through the right side and Barnard, with some head's up base running, came around to score the winning run.
"I'm so proud of the team for continuing to fight to the last batter," Santa Clara head coach Lisa Dodd said. "We were able to string some good at-bats together in the seventh and Morgan came up with the big hit. Credit to Kelsie for scoring from second on the ball and to Regan for keeping us close."

Hannah Bandimere (12-10) had pitched a gem until the seventh, allowing just one hit. She ended up with the loss in 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
The Lions (29-17, 5-3 WCC) managed 10 hits, getting two apiece from Maddison Flores, Andrea Gonzalez, and Riley Ehlen, getting on the board the first time in the fourth and adding two more in the seventh but couldn't break the game open against Santa Clara starter Regan Dias.
Dias took a no-decision in 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with a strikeout. Lauren Schiek (2-3) picked up the win with 2/3 of an inning out of the bullpen.
Game 2
LMU came charging out of the gate and scored seven unearned runs in the first thanks to a pair of Santa Clara errors and made it standup despite some late runs by the Broncos.
Molly Grumbo was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, and three RBIs and Delanie Wisz also added three RBIs on a home run. Megan Dedrick had a pair of doubles and scored twice with Ehlen also adding two hits with a run scored and an RBI.
Samantha Manti started but went just 3 2/3 innings to get a no-decision in allowing three runs. Linnay Wilson (5-1) picked up the win in 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
Allyson Ferreira got the Broncos on the board in the third when she came up with a two out RBI single to left and added two more RBIs with a triple in the fourth.
Ferreira finished the day a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Emma Bickford added two hits and two runs scored.
Aubree Kim (0-7) got just one out in the start and was undone by two errors behind her. Kim allowed seven unearned runs on two hits with two walks while taking the loss.
