Offense Leads the Way as Softball Beats San Diego for Series Win

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball's bats came alive as the Broncos set a season-high with 15 hits and took the rubber match at San Diego 9-2 Sunday afternoon to wrap-up the road portion of their schedule.

The big inning was the second when Santa Clara (8-17, 5-7 WCC) scored five times and chased Toreros (11-28, 2-10 WCC) starter Hannah Boos. Ashley Treirweiler, Kenzie Yamakoshi, and Allyson Ferreira all had RBI singles and the Broncos took advantage of an error.

Trierweiler had a huge day at the plate going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, a walk, and an RBI while adding four stolen bases. Emily Eudy added three hits and two runs scored.

Lauren Anderson (2-6) tossed a complete game to get the win. She allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Rion Simms and Lauren Hendrickson both collected two hits for San Diego. Hendrickson's hits were doubles and she scored a run with an RBI while Simms had a walk and a run scored.

Boos (0-1) allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout while taking the loss in 1 1/3 innings.

The Broncos finish the season with a three-game series at home against BYU beginning Friday.
