
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped its final game of the year 6-1 to BYU Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The game was tied through four innings but the Cougars (33-15, 11-1 WCC) scored in each of the last three innings, including three in the seventh, to pull away and seal a WCC title.
Rylee Jensen, Violet Zavodnik, and Marissa Epenesa all picked up two hits for BYU with Huntyr Ava knocking in a pair of runs. Jensen had a double, a run scored, and an RBI with Zavodnik scoring a run and knocking one in and Epenesa had a home run with two runs scored.
Autumn Moffat-Korth (19-8) went 6 innings to collect the win. She allowed an unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
The Broncos (8-20, 5-10 WCC) got a double from Ashley Trierweiler who scored their lone run on a passed ball. Allyson Ferreira, Sarah Ellersick, and Emily Eudy each added a single.
Liyah Lopez (3-4) went the distance but took the loss. She allowed six runs, three earned, on 10 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
