Softball Loses on a Late Rally by UC Davis at NorCal Kickoff Finale

DAVIS, Calif. - Santa Clara softball took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth behind freshman Hazyl Gray's pitching and Emma Bickford's home run but lost 3-1 on a late rally by UC Davis.

Gray held the Aggies scoreless through five innings allowing just three hits but in the sixth, UC Davis (5-1) put up three runs on two hits, a walk and was aided by a costly Bronco error.

Sommer Kisling opened the sixth with a walk and scored on back to back singles by Sarah Starks and Libbie McMahon to tie the game up at 1-all.  With runners at the corners, Delaney Diaz reached on an error that scored both runners for the go ahead run.

Gray ended up as the hard luck losing pitcher with one earned run given up on five hits and three walks over  5 2/3 innings.

Bickford gave the Broncos (0-4) a 1-0 lead in the fourth when she went deep against Aggies starter Caroline Grimes.

Kenedi Brown came in relief of Grimes and threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.
