SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball had three players recognized in the first West Coast Conference awards, announced by the WCC on Thursday. Junior Nikki Hess and sophomore Kirsten Mead were named First Team All-WCC, while junior Sabrina Clayton was named Second Team All-WCC.
Awards were voted on solely by the league's seven head coaches.
Hess played the entire season at the No. 2 position alongside Dani Rottman. They posted the best dual record (12-4) and set record (28-9) of any Bronco pairing in 2016. Hess helped the pair win four of its first five matchups and five straight duals from April 7-14; she and Rottman lost only one set during that stretch.
Mead and Clayton teamed up to play the entire season at the No. 1 position. The pairing went 9-7 in duals and 21-22 in sets. They posted a 3-0 dual record against teams from ranked opponents.
Each of the three honorees contributed to the most successful campaign in program history, featuring a single-season record 11 victories and a six-match winning streak.
