SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Sacramento State this afternoon at Rio Del Oro Raquet Club. The Broncos fall to 6-5 overall while the Hornets improved their record to 7-1, marking the best start to a season in Hornet women's tennis history.

Sacramento State's Marta Gronowicz (No. 2), Petra Abraham (No. 4), Amanda Sanches (No. 5) and Christina Rivieccio (No. 6) each were victorious in singles play. Roberta Fessenko put up a strong fight at No. 3 despite a back injury, but was unable to claim a point for the Hornets as she was defeated by Bronco freshman Janalle Kaloi, 7-6, 7-5.

The Hornet women were also strong in doubles play, allowing only one victory for Santa Clara duo of Christine Limbers and Nicole McCord. Christina Rivieccio and Amanda Sanches paired up for the first time this season and handed the Bronco doubles team of Pati Ruiz and Jenny Siegel their first loss as a tandem to give Sac State the doubles point.

The Broncos return to action on Friday, visiting Saint Mary's for a 1:30 p.m. West Coast Conference match in Moraga. Santa Clara will then return home to host CS Northridge at 11 a.m.
