Kaloi, Kawakami Repeat as the WCC Doubles Team of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman Janalle Kaloi and junior Mariko Kawakami were named the West Coast Conference's doubles team of the month for the second straight month, the league announced this afternoon.

The tandem started the month with an 8-5 win over Saint Mary's at No. 1 doubles, and also notched victories over San Jose State, St. Louis and Loyola Marymount. The duo never ceded more than five games in any match during March and posted a 4-1 record.

Loyola Marymount's Andrea Lord earned the conference's singles player of the month honor.

Kaloi and Kawakami earned their first league honors after being named the doubles duo of the month for February. The pair went 3-2 during the month, going 2-1 at the top spot and 1-1 at the No. 2 doubles. The tandem topped teams from UC Santa Barbara, USF and Northern Arizona. Both losses came in extra sets, 9-7 scores to UNLV and Sacramento State.

Santa Clara (11-7) remains in conference action and will visit Pepperdine on Wednesday, April 10. The Waves are currently ranked 42nd by the ITA. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. down in Malibu. Santa Clara will return home on Friday, for a 3p.m. showdown against Pacific at the SCU Tennis Center.
