SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis program has announced that alumnus Ben Cabell has joined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Damon Coupe announced today. Cabell will begin work on the Mission Campus immediately and will share on-court responsibilities as well as assist with the team's strength and conditioning program.

Coupe's coaching staff is now complete, with Tricia Guidace also serving as a volunteer assistant coach.

"I'm very excited to have Ben join our staff," Coupe said. "The team is also looking forward to extra help on the court. Ben and I have similar philosophies in the way we teach and mold players and I think he'll make an excellent addition to the program."

"I'm very excited to be returning to campus," said Cabell, who represented the Broncos during the 1996 season. "I played here, so I know I'll fit in. I already feel the family setting this department offers and Damon and I have a lot of the same goals. I'm looking forward to starting the season."

A native of Los Altos, Cabell began his collegiate career at Foothill Junior College. After one season with the Broncos, Cabell transferred to San Diego State, where he graduated in 2000 with a degree in political science. Cabell is currently an assistant pro at the Los Altos Golf & Tennis Club.

Santa Clara will open the 2005 dual season in San Luis Obispo in just 10 days. Santa Clara will take on Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 16 at 9:30 a.m. and follow with a Jan. 17 match against Cal Poly at 11 a.m.
