Women's Tennis Earns 10th Win of Season

April 2, 2005

IRVINE, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's tennis team will play for the UC Irvine Spring Invitational Championship on Sunday after earning a 5-2 victory over New Mexico State this morning at Anteater Tennis Stadium. Santa Clara improves to 10-4 on the season with the victory.

Santa Clara will face host and 74th-ranked UC Irvine in the final. The Anteaters advanced with a 5-2 victory over San Francisco. Sunday's championship match will begin at noon.

"I was proud at how well the team responded after losing the doubles point," head coach Damon Coupe said. "The hard work they have put in mentally grinding through a match has really paid off, as they are able to stick with it in close contests. We're looking forward to playing in the final tomorrow."

After completion of this tournament, the Broncos will visit West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary's on April 6 in Moraga before returning home to the Degheri Tennis Center to host San Francisco on April 8.
