The Santa Clara Broncos play one of their biggest regular matches on Wednesday, March 7, taking on the Loyola Marymount Lions at 2:30 at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos have won two matches in a row and will be looking for another big West Coast Conference win over the Lions.
Last Week
The Santa Clara women's tennis team won its second straight match on March 1. The Broncos took out San Jose State 7-0 to improve their record to 3-3 on the season. SCU swept all three doubles match to win the point before winning all six singles matches in a dominating performance. Five out of the six singles victories came in straight sets and No. 3 Lindsay McBride came back to earn a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.

Daniel Now Eighth Overall In Singles Wins
Kim Daniel posted the 46th win of her career last Friday against San Jose State at No. 4 singles. Currently in eighth place all-time in singles wins, Daniel is one win away from tying Mariko Kawakami (2000-03) for seventh all-time. Casey Knutson also won against San Jose State, moving her into sole possession of eighth place all-time with 45 wins.
Daniel Leading Way
With her win against Silvana Dukic of San Jose State on March 1, senior Kim Daniel moved her record to 5-1 during the dual match season. She has won matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 in the lineup for SCU. She is currently leading the team in wins in the dual match season.
Senior Leadership
Bronco seniors Erika Barnes, Kim Daniel and Casey Knutson have led the way for SCU this season. The trio has earned 10 of the 16 singles wins in duals for the Broncos this year. In doubles, Barnes and Knutson have posted a 4-2 record at No. 1 doubles, while Daniel combined with junior Myra Davoudi for a two doubles wins. Seniors have been involved with six out of nine doubles wins during the dual season.
Rivalry Series Clinched
With the team's win over San Jose State last week, the women's tennis team clinched the Rivalry Series for the Broncos for the fifth consecutive season. Santa Clara now leads 17.5-5.5 in the series with only four sports left to play and a total of nine points available.
McBride On The Board
After starting the dual match season slowly, Lindsay McBride made a big comeback against San Jose State to earn her first win of the spring. McBride lost the first set 6-1 to Courtney Koenigsfeld, but won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to claim the win.
Last Match Against Loyola Marymount
Santa Clara and No. 67 Loyola Marymount faced off on April 21, 2006 in the first round of the WCC Championships at the Degheri Tennis Center. SCU was seeded sixth and Loyola Marymount was the third seed. With rain threatening, the teams played the singles portion of the match first. Myra Davoudi got SCU off to a good start with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, but the Lions stormed back to take the next four singles matches to claim a 4-1 win. Stephanie Galainena's match at No. 3 was not completed after LMU won its fourth singles match to earn the victory. Kelly Leathers lost at No. 1, while Casey Knutson, Kim Daniel and Erika Barnes fell at Nos. 2, 4 and 5 respectively. The doubles matches were not played after LMU clinched the match.
Cabell's Take
Head coach Ben Cabell, on Loyola Marymount: "The match against LMU is important because it could have a big impact on our seeding for the WCC Championships. We want to go out and play well and try and get a win. If we can continue to play like we have the last two matches, we will have a good chance at doing that."
