Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's tennis announced that it has added two players to the squad for the 2006-07 season. Lindsay McBride, a transfer from Texas Christian University, and Meghan Madden, a native of Portland, Ore., will begin play with the women's tennis program this fall.

McBride, a native of La Jolla, Calif. spent her first two collegiate seasons at nationally-ranked TCU, where she played both singles and doubles for the Horned Frogs. In her sophomore year, she posted a 3-4 singles record and 3-3 doubles record in the fall season, but did not participate in the spring. One of her doubles victories came at the expense of the Santa Clara's doubles pair of Stephanie Galainena and Kelly Leathers. As a freshman in 2004-05, McBride posted five victories in singles and one doubles win.
"Lindsay is a very solid all-around player who I got to watch first hand last year," said women's tennis head coach Damon Coupe. "I know that she will have a great impact in our lineup in 2006-07 because she competes extremely hard at all times and will stay out on the court for as long as it takes to get the win. Also, as a junior, she will bring some added veteran leadership and consistency to our team."
Prior to her time at TCU, McBride was a four-time All-Palomar League first-team selection at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego and the team captain her senior year. She was also named a San Diego Union Tribune Scholar Athlete in 2003 and 2004 for her outstanding work on the courts and in the classroom.
Madden arrives at the Mission Campus as a walk-on after an outstanding high school career at Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore. As a team captain in 2005, she helped her team win the state championship and earned first-team All-State honors in the process. In doubles, she captured the Metro championship in 2005 and was third in the Metro in singles in 2004. Outside of high school, she was ranked number seven in the Northwest, while competing on two junior zonal teams.
"Meghan comes to us from a strong high school program in Portland," said Coupe. "She has some good firepower on her serve and powerful ground strokes. I think that she will be a good asset to the team this year. We are excited to welcome both Meghan and Lindsay into the team for the upcoming year."
