Women's Tennis Wraps Up WCC Season with 4-0 Win Over Pacific

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team wrapped up its final regular dual of the season on a high note, sweeping Pacific 4-0 on Saturday. The Broncos look forward to the West Coast Conference Championships in San Diego, Calif. starting on Wed., April 23.

Santa Clara boasts a 10-9 overall dual record after its WCC win over the Tigers. The Broncos are 5-2 at home, 3-6 on the road and 2-1 on neutral surfaces. The team is 5-4 in the WCC this spring season with wins over San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, Portland and Gonzaga.

Santa Clara faced a challenging opponent in first-year WCC contender Pacific, but the Broncos were able to get on the board first by winning the doubles point.

On court one, the Santa Clara duo of Chelby Cooke and Katie Le grabbed a solid 8-2 victory from Hana Ritterova and Regina Suarez of the Tigers. The No. 2 team of Delphine Rouvillois and Stephanie Skaras clinched the doubles point for the Broncos with an 8-2 contest over Francis Dean and Christiana Ferrari. The match on court three was then halted.

On the singles side, Santa Clara converted the necessary three individual matches to take the win for the day's events and bounce back from the team's loss to Saint Mary's the day before.

No. 27 Katie Le, who fell to No. 12 Jenny Jullien in a WCC showdown on Friday, got back to her winning ways after tallying a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Pacific's Hana Ritterova. The Bronco senior posts an impressive 15-2 record in her final dual season at Santa Clara. Le is 26-5 overall for the 2013-14 season and stands No. 1 for most wins all-time in program history. Le has not dropped below No. 35 in the ITA rankings this season.

At the No. 3 singles spot, Chelby Cooke upended her opponent Gergana Boncheva in two quick sets, 6-3, 6-1. The sophomore displayed great finesse and went 2-0 this weekend.

The match was clinched with Stephanie Skaras's win over Christiana Ferrari on court five. The Australia native took the first set, 6-4, and finished off the day with a 6-1 victory in the second set.
