SAN JOSE, Calif. – Battling against No. 73-ranked San Jose State on Saturday, the Santa Clara women's tennis team was unable to knock off the Spartans, falling 6-1.

The Bronco duo of Madison Clarke and Chelby Cooke started the match off on the right foot with a 6-1 victory over the Spartan pair of Sybille Gauvain and Marine Dans.

However, San Jose State (3-0) took the next two doubles matches, including Gaelle Rey and Marie Klocker eking out a close 6-4 win over Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva to capture the doubles point and go up 1-0 in the match.

The Spartans won three matches in a row in singles with Clarke losing to No. 90-ranked Klocker on Court 2.

The loss moves the Broncos to 2-2 on the young season and they will take on Fresno State next Saturday at 3 p.m. in Fresno.
