SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team begins its quest in the West Coast Conference Championships Thursday against Brigham Young University at 1 p.m.

"We've been shooting for this goal since the beginning of the year, to make the conference tournament," said head coach Ben Cabell. "We did it and I think we're just really excited to play this match."

The team is in Claremont, California, coming off of a 4-1 victory over Loyola Marymount University last Saturday on Senior Day.

The Broncos (12-9, 5-4) come in as the No. 4 seed, while the Cougars (6-15, 4-5) are the No. 5-seeded squad in the six-team, three-day tournament.

"We know we can win, we beat them before and the goal is to play really well, get a good win and get a shot at Pepperdine on Friday," Cabell said. "That's what everyone is working for."

The winner advances to face off against No. 8-ranked and top-seeded Pepperdine (19-2, 9-0) on Friday at 2 p.m.

The championship match is slotted for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
