SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The 2016-17 fall season begins for Santa Clara women's tennis this week. Seniors Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva will represent the Broncos in the University of San Francisco's eighth annual Battle in the Bay Classic on Sept. 22-25. Some of the top players in the nation will compete at the California Tennis Club.

"We're excited for them to get an opportunity to play in this tournament," head coach Ben Cabell said. "It's a new tournament for us and they will be facing high-level competition. It is the top players from each team, not entire teams competing."

Action from the courts is slated to begin on Thursday, Sept. 22, as the 16-person women's draw gets underway. Along with vying for the tournament title, competitors will be eying a wildcard entry into the $50,000 Stockton Challenger next summer. Along with the two Broncos, the women's draw will include players from USF, Arizona, UC Santa Barbara and Pacific.

"Dani (Silva) and Nabila (Farah) earned the right to play in tournaments like these," Cabell said. "They've had great careers and I'm excited for them to play against some of the best players in the country and I think they are going to do great."

Farah was named to the 2016 All-WCC Second Team in doubles with her partner, Silva, and she was appointed to the WCC All-Tournament team. In the fall of 2015, she posted a 4-2 singles record, highlighted by winning her bracket in the St. Mary's Invitational. Farah and Silva both traveled to the 2015 ITA All-American Championships in Malibu, California, and played in the doubles competition.

Silva was named to the 2016 All-WCC Second Team in singles and also earned All-WCC Second Team honors in doubles. In the fall of 2015, Silva played with Farah in the ITA All-American Championships and the duo reached the semifinals of the doubles draw at the Saint Mary's Invitational. She also posted a 2-2 singles record during the 2015 fall slate.

Draws and additional information on the Battle in the Bay Classic will be posted as they become available. Visit here for USF's information page.
