SAN FRANCISCO –Santa Clara women's tennis wrapped up competition at the University of San Francisco's Battle in the Bay Classic on Saturday. Seniors Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva came up short of reaching the finals of their respective brackets.

"It was definitely a good start for them," head coach Ben Cabell said. "It was a very good first tournament and I'm pleased with how they did. I think it's only going to get better from here."

Silva upset the No. 4 seed in the opening round but could not knock off No. 1-seeded Lauren Marker (Arizona). The senior fell in the semifinal round 6-2, 6-3.

"Dani (Silva) had a tough match," Cabell said. "Lauren (Marker) played very well. It's a great learning experience for her and I think it's a good test for what she's going see a lot this year. This is what we wanted and we knew it was going to be tough but she's ready for it."

Farah took Isabella Von Ebbe (UC Davis) to the brink in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket. The senior could not hold off Von Ebbe's comeback, though, losing 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11).

"Tough result for her today," Cabell said. "I think she played okay, obviously she wanted to win today. But, I think her goal was to get some matches under her belt and get match-ready and she accomplished that."

Next up for the Broncos is the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, California, on Sept. 30–Oct. 2. The 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships also take place on Oct. 1–9.
