BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis began competition at the Cal Nike Invitational on Saturday in Berkeley, California. Senior Nabila Farah and junior Zeina El Tawil upset the No. 3 seed and advanced to the doubles quarterfinal in the Gold bracket.

The Broncos full squad began their season in what head coach Ben Cabell said was a very tough tournament. Farah and El Tawil knocked off No. 3 seed Jaimee Gilbertson and Natalie DaSilveira (Santa Barbara) in the doubles round of 16 matchup in the gold bracket, 8-6. They will face Vanessa Nommenson and Pari Kaur (St. Mary's) in the quarterfinal on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Senior Daniella Silva was able to advance to the singles round of 16 in the Blue bracket by defeating LaniRae Gree (UC Davis), 6-4; 3-6; 7-5. Freshman Caraline Patterson got a win in her collegiate debut, defeating Sarina Chhabra (San Francisco) in the singles round of the 32 white bracket, 1-6; 6-3; 6-3. Both athletes were unable to advance to the quarterfinal round.
