SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis will compete this weekend in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Stanford, California. Competition at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center begins on Friday, Oct. 21 and runs through Oct. 25.

The singles and doubles main draw champions from this event gain automatic entry to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in Flushing, New York, on Nov. 3-6.

"This is a big tournament for us," head coach Ben Cabell said. "We've got two competitions under our belt already so I'm looking for us to continue to show improvement and see who is going to start to step up and lead the team this year."

The entire Bronco squad will be competing in the singles and doubles brackets. Freshmen Caitlyn Frankel and Caraline Patterson will pair up for the doubles competition. Junior Zeina El Tawil and senior Nabila Farah are set to compete together in the doubles bracket. Sophomore Elizabeth Stephens and junior Giannina Ong along with senior Daniella Silva and sophomore Madison Clarke make up the final two Bronco pairings.

In addition to Santa Clara and the host Stanford, the ITA's Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Seattle, UC Davis, Washington and Washington State.

"It's tough because the competition is so good," Cabell said. "But, in the long run, it's a good thing. We'd prefer to play the best because that's how you get better. It's a good opportunity for us to see what the best players and teams in the country do so we have a benchmark and something to strive for."

When announced on Thursday, the draws can be found here.
