SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis had a successful first day hosting the Bronco Invitational. The Broncos won four singles matches and two doubles matches on the day.
"I'm very pleased with the effort we put in," head coach Ben Cabell said. "I thought we competed well, which I'm very happy about because that was our goal. We weren't really focused on results, we just wanted to compete well and support each other as a team and I thought we did that."
Sophomore Madison Clarke defeated Adriana Gergelyova (Nevada) in a three-set battle, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. In doubles play, Clarke and senior Daniella Silva knocked off Parminder Kaur and Jacqueline Pelletier (St. Mary's), 8-5.

"We had some good results and came away with some good wins," Cabell said. "I think Madison Clarke had a nice day, picked up two good wins in singles and doubles against good players."
Junior Giannina Ong claimed a singles win over Carlijn Ketting (Nevada), 6-2, 6-4. Ong then teamed up with freshman Caraline Patterson to win their doubles match over Achlamov and Korzeniecki (Nevada), 8-7 (7).
Also in singles play, freshman Caitlyn Frankel won, 6-3, 6-2, over Sara Korzeniecki (Nevada) and Senior Nabila Farah was victorious over Milena Achlamov (Nevada), 6-2, 6-2.
"Our freshman Caitlyn Frankel did a nice job in singles and Giannina Ong also came up with two wins in both singles and doubles which is great for her," Cabell said. "I'm very proud of what she was able to do."
Competition resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT at Degheri Tennis Center.
