SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis opens the 2017 dual match season on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT against Sonoma State.

"I'm excited to play and I know the girls are excited to play," head coach Ben Cabell said. "I think that's the main thing, we're just excited to start competing as a team and once you start playing these matches it starts to go pretty quick."

Freshmen Caitlyn Frankel and Caraline Patterson will look to continue their strong play after a promising fall season. Sophomore Elizabeth Stephens and junior Giannina Ong are hoping to begin the season on a high note after strong play in the fall. Junior Zeina El Tawil and sophomore Madison Clarke had a lot of success in the fall and will be depended upon in the spring. Seniors Daniella Silva and Nabila Farah, the leaders on the team, played well and will look to have a strong final season. The Broncos also added freshman Delaney Nothaft between the fall and dual match season.

"These first couple matches we're going to use to see where we are," Cabell said. "We're going to get everybody ready to go and also lock down what we're going to do with doubles. We have an idea but we want to get it settled within this first week or two."

Sonoma State has yet to open its dual match season but will face Foothill College in an exhibition on Friday, Jan. 27 prior to the match against SCU on the 28th. The match against Santa Clara will also be an exhibition for SSU.
